When have wars been predicted but then did not happen? Why were they avoided?

Nobel Peace Prize Winners: A peace walk through activism

Develop a unit in which students "walk" across continents, following Nobel Peace Prize winners, studying the history behind the conflicts and the peace work accomplished. I want to integrate core subjects (I teach humanities, science, and math, as well as physical fitness), "moving" from one peacemaker to the next by walking for a certain period of time...??
